Description:

All Sharps New Model rifles are far rarer than the New Model carbines. Only around 6,150 New Model 1863 rifles were manufactured in 1863-1865 with front sight bases that doubled as the lugs for socket bayonets. Many saw hard use during the second half of the Civil War, and 1,086 New Model rifles of various years were converted after the war for metallic cartridges making original examples in good or better condition very desirable. This example has the standard markings and features including two cartouches on the stock.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with 60% of the thinning original blue finish on the barrel, some patches of brown patina where the finish is worn, mottled gray and brown patina and 40% of original case colors on the balance, some patches of light oxidation, scattered light scratches and dings on the reoiled wood, one crisp cartouche, one faded cartouche, and some slight chips. Mechanically excellent.
