Description:

This attractive sword has a 31 1/2 inch double edges, straight blade with central fullers and martial and scroll etching. The "Ames Mfg. Co./Chicopee/Mass" etched markings on the reverse ricasso indicates it was manufactured in 1848 at the earliest. Similar patterned swords and scabbards are pictured on page 106 and 109 of "The Ames Sword Company, 1829-1935" by Hamilton dated to the 1850s. The langet has a silver U.S. eagle and shield emblem. The grip is scroll and geometric engraved silver. The pommel is Roman inspired cuirassier helmet with plain face. The scabbard has a variety of raised relief martial and patriotic designs and engraved floral work. The tip has a quiver that has some resemblance to a fasces.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with mild aging and storage wear, somewhat loose hilt, and minor marks and scratches. Blade is also very fine.
