Description:

Spencer carbines were among the three most widely used carbines of the Civil War. After the war, many Spencers continued to be used until the adoption of the trapdoor. Ironically, Custer was among the first men issued a Spencer rifle during the war, and several Spencers were used by his adversaries during the Battle of Little Bighorn. This carbine has six-groove rifling and the Stabler cut-off. "M. 1865" is stamped on the barrel at the breech, and the top of the receiver is stamped with the three-line address/patent marking. The left side of the stock is stamped with two script letter cartouches: "DAP" and "AWM."

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally restored. The carbine retains 98% plus of the blue and casehardened finish with a few patches of minor pitting. There is a hairline crack on top of the receiver at the rear. The refinished wood shows a few minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
