Description:

Colt manufactured these rifles in 1861-1865 under contract for the Union Army as well as state units and for the commercial market. The Colt Model 1861s used the same folding leaf rear sight as the Springfield Model 1861. The hammer, bolster, barrel bands, and ramrod style introduced on the Colt Model 1861 were subsequently utilized on the Springfield Model 1863. It has the standard markings and features and is dated "1863" on the lock. It is fitted with a period leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with mostly bright iron surfaces, patches of light oxidation, smooth re-oiled finish on the lightly sanded stock, several faint or absent markings, replacement buttplate, faint cartouches, and general minor dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
