Description:

This Sharps rifle is a Meacham type conversion built from a New Model 1865 carbine. The rifle is equipped with a heavyweight octagon barrel with a blade front sight and Lawrence patent rear sight and marked with the boxed "Old Reliable" and "SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN." markings ahead of the rear sight and "45 CALIBRE 2 7/8" at the breech. The modified percussion lock is marked "C. SHARPS' PAT/OCT 5TH 1852." "SHARPS PAT/SEPT. 12TH 1848" is on the left side of the receiver. It also features double set triggers, smooth forearm, checkered stock, and steel buttplate. The forearm and barrel were numbered to the gun in period outside of the factory.

Rating Definition:

Good with brown patina throughout, some light oxidation, minor pitting, cracked upper tang, and moderate scratches, dings, and edge wear. The wood is fair with some chipping at various edges, partially smoothed checkering, hairline cracks, and numerous scratches and small dents. Mechanically functions fine other than the set triggers which need work. Overall, this is an attractive Old West buffalo hunter type Sharps rifle.
