Description:

This Sharps rifle is a Meacham type conversion built from a New Model 1863 carbine. The rifle is equipped with a medium weight octagon barrel with a blade front sight and Lawrence patent rear sight and marked with the boxed "Old Reliable" and "SHARPS RIFLE CO. BRIDGEPORT, CONN." markings ahead of the rear sight and "CALIBRE 45" and "2 1/10" behind the rear sight, modified lock marked "C. SHARPS' PAT/OCT 5TH 1852", "SHARPS PAT/SEPT. 12TH 1848" on the left side of the receiver, double set triggers, smooth Schnabel forearm, checkered straight wrist buttstock, and matching numbers on the forearm, barrel, and action.

Rating Definition:

Good with traces of finish in the protected areas and otherwise mostly smooth brown and gray patina along with some light pitting, scattered scratches and dings, generally crisp markings, and mild edge wear. The wood is good with bottom toe reglued/reattached in two places, general scrapes and dings, multiple stabilized cracks in the butt, and mostly crisp checkering. The set triggers need some adjustment, but otherwise, it is mechanically fine.
