One of around 12,000 Remington No. 1 rifles manufactured in 1868-1888. It has a blade front sight, U-notch rear sight, a filled dovetail at the breech, no barrel address, "44 CTGE S" on the bottom of the barrel, barrel bored out to .50 caliber, two-line patent marking on the upper tang, a single set trigger, matching serial numbers (barrel, forearm, lower tang, buttplate, and stock), "26622" on the left side of the tangs, and smooth stock and forearm with steel cap and buttplate.

Fair as period rebored to .50 with brown patina throughout, patches of mild pitting, vice marks, moderate edge wear, general marks and scratches, and mostly legible markings. The wood is fine as refinished and repaired with stabilized cracks in the forearm, scrapes and small dents throughout, and moderate handling and storage wear. Mechanically excellent.
