Description:

This is one of less than 300 breech loading percussion long guns manufactured by William Walker Marston (1822-1873) of New York City circa the mid-1850s and covered by his June 18, 1850 patent. The rifle is equipped with a low profile blade front sight, and a fine notch rear sight, heavy barrel and trigger guard acting as the action lever. The frame and hammer have a factory scroll engraving, and the left side of the frame is stamped with "W.W.MARSTON PATENED1850 NEW=YORK." The buttstock is checkered and has a varnished finish. "53" is marked just ahead of the trigger.

Rating Definition:

Very good with dark brown patina along the barrel, gray patina and spots of dark brown on the frame, patches of mild pitting, general marks and scratches, and mild overall wear. The stock is also very good and has extensive flaking of the varnish numerous scrapes and dents, some chipping at the upper right edge of the wrist, and mostly crisp checkering. Mechanically fine.
