Description:

Manufactured in 1871. The barrel rib has the one-line address/patent dates marking ending in "RUSSIAN MODEL." The butt has provisions for a lanyard ring. Matching assembly numbers are found on the cylinder, barrel latch and barrel. Matching serial numbers are found on the butt and right grip panel. Each grip panel is stamped with "O" below the screw. Comes with a full plate tintype of a cabinet card of a man dressed in cowboy attire (holster rig holds a different nickel revolver than the one offered here). The man is identified as A.T. Moseley, as marked on the tintype. According to the consignor the revolver and tintype came from the estate of Moseley's descendants in Kendall County, Texas, in 2017. The consignor has provided research related to Moseley. His 1916 front page obituary referred to Moseley as "the pioneer cattleman of the Adobe creek country." Col. Moseley was born in 1852 in Jessamine, Keene County, Kentucky, settled in Colorado where he established one of the largest cattle ranches in southern Colorado, and met a tragic death in an automobile accident while riding in a brand new 1916 Overland car. The famed Keystone Ranch was left to Moseley's nephew.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The revolver retains 70% plus original nickel finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. There are extensive tool-like markings on the grip straps and some scattered minor pitting. The grips are fine with a number of minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
