Description:

This is the last of several variations (collectors refer to it as the fourth model) of Merwin, Hulbert & Co.'s large frame revolvers manufactured exclusively by Hopkins & Allen in the 1870s and 1880s. Several thousand are estimated to have been produced. This example has a pinned blade front and top strap notch sights, checkered grips, folding hammer spur, sliding loading gate, two-line Merwin address/patent dates marking on the barrel rib, and "caliber Winchester 1873" marking on the left side of the frame (.44-40 WCF). The serial number is on the butt, and the assembly number "2141" appears on the left side of the grip frame, right grip panel, loading gate, cylinder and barrel lug.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The revolver retains 98% original untouched nickel finish showing some very scattered minor flaking. 85% plus original case colors remain on the hammer, trigger and trigger guard. A light drag line is visible on the cylinder. The grips are also excellent with some scattered minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
