Manufactured in circa 1770. With three stage turn off cannon barrel with turned muzzle, the scroll engraved breech section signed "T. RICHARDS" on the underside and struck with Birmingham private proof marks and the maker's mark "T.R". Action with engraved sliding trigger guard safety catch. Highly figured walnut butt inlaid with silver wire scrollwork behind the barrel tang, and silver mounts comprising pierced trophy of arms side plate, shaped vacant escutcheon and grotesque mask pommel.

Good. Bright throughout, some wear to engraving and scattered corrosion marks and discoloration. Trigger guard safety catch engages. Some wear to butt with age related marking, cracked at mid point, minor loss to silver wire inlay, some rubbing and wear to silver through age related polishing and handling. Mechanically excellent.

As described in "A". The underside of the breech and barrel numbered "1". In recent fitted wooden case with fine and rare brass mounted copper Hawksley powder flask engraved with flowering foliage on the bag shaped body and a band of foliage around the top. Other accessories include a modern steel barrel key and a small brown leather pouch for spare flints.
