Description:

This set was manufactured by William Bond of London around 1830-1850. He is known for making cased sets of traveler's pistols. These large bore pistols would certainly have been well-suited for use in defense against tigers and dangerous animals let alone any two legged predators. Their large caliber, rifling, and fixed sights would have also made them deadly tools in a duel if the need arose, but they aren't purpose built dueling pistols. They have post front sights, "W BOND 59 LOMBARD ST LONDON" on top of the barrels, engraved and gold banded breeches, matching floral scroll engraving on most of the other parts, "W BOND" and slide safeties on the locks, German silver thumb plates, and checkered wrists. They come in an English fitted hardwood case with red velvet lining, a William Bond trade label, cap tin, lubricant, a powder flask, oiler, bore rod with attachments, bullet mold, screwdriver, 5 lead balls, and a key.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with 50% original brown finish and attractive Damascus patterns on the barrel, distinct case colors on the breech plug, traces of case colors on the lock, 40% original blue finish on the trigger guard and ramrod pipe, and mostly brown patina on the balance. The stock has some chipping and hairline cracks at the wedge, crisp checkering, slight crack at the bolster, and numerous small dings and scratches.
