The consignor indicated this is a French made Civil War staff officer's sword. It has "crown/B" and "S" stamps on the right ricasso, 30 3/4 inch blade with extensive scroll and U.S. martial themed etching, folding left side of the guard, U.S. eagle and shield emblem and a stand of arms on the pierced guard on the right, Medusa's head on the back of the hilt, and a copper wire wrapped rayskin grip. The scabbard has a nickeled body and gild brass fittings with floral designs.

Fine with 40% original gilt finish primarily concentrated in the protected areas, nice aged patina on the exposed brass, mostly bright very fine blade with some light patina and minor wear, loose grip wire, tight overall fit, and light spotting on the body of the scabbard.
