Description:

This is an example of a scarce Colt Model 1855 revolving carbine with English proofs. R.L. Wilson estimates only 2,300 carbines in 56 caliber with 21 inch barrels were produced. This rare carbine is marked with British "crown/GP" and "crown/V" proofs on the left rear barrel flat below the rear sight and alternating in each cylinder flute. The top strap is marked "COL. COLT HARTFORD CT. USA", and one of the cylinder flutes is stamped "PATENTED SEPT. 10, 1850". The left side of the receiver has "COLT'S PATENT/NOV. 24th 1857" (faint) near the saddle ring and stud. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel, frame, lower tang and the buttplate toe. The upper left rear of the trigger guard is marked with the small letter "P". It features a pinched brass front sight and rear sight with two folding leaves marked for 100, 300, and 600 yards. It is mounted with a straight grip walnut stock with crescent buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The carbine has a smooth artificial gray-brown patina overall. The brass has been cleaned. The refinished stock is very good with a pin repair on the wrist, a small hairline stress crack near the upper tang and a few minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
