Description:

The Union Arms Co. of New York City only procured around 300 or less of these rifle-muskets despite signing a contract for 65,000. It is unclear whether or not Union Arms Co. manufactured the muskets themselves or contracted them out to Parker, Snow, Brooks & Co. of Meriden, Connecticut, or another company. It is also believed that the few that were manufactured were delivered to the State of New York instead of the U.S. Ordnance Dept. It has the standard Model 1861 features, "1863" at the tail of the lock, "eagle/U.S." and "U.A.CO./NEW YORK" at the center of the lock, "1863" and the "V/P/eagle head" inspection marks at the breech, "C" marks below the "U"s on the rear two barrel bands, no visible cartouche, "U.S." on the buttplate tang, and a "U.S./S" marked socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with mostly light gray patina on the iron, some light spotting/pitting, and generally minor marks. The otherwise fine stock has some slight bruises, general scratches, a faint hairline crack forming at the nose of the lock, and mild edge wear. The bayonet is fine and has mottled patina, oxidation and pitting. Mechanically fine.
