Description:

The Joslyn rifle was the first breech loading metallic cartridge rifle manufactured at a U.S. national armory. 3,007 were assembled in January to June of 1865 utilizing breech units supplied by the Joslyn Firearms Company. More than half were exported to France in 1870 and used in the Franco-Prussian War. It has standard markings and features. It is dated "1864" on the lock and includes a "U.S." marked socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Fine with subtle case colors, mottled gray and brown patina, mild pitting, light oxidation, and general minor marks and scratches. The bayonet is also fine and has been cleaned and has some light patina and slight pitting. The stock is very fine and has dark oiled finish, scattered minor dings and scratches, some very slight chips at the edges, and a faint cartouche. Mechanically excellent.
