This is an outstanding example of an original pre-war Colt Model 1911A1 Super Match semi-automatic pistol as manufactured in late 1940 early 1941. These Super Match pistols were manufactured in sequence with the standard Colt 38 Supers, except they featured a hand honed action, adjustable rear sights, (standard front and rear sight could also be ordered as in their example) and then received the high polished blue finish with all checkered walnut grip panels. Only approximately 5,000 of these special higher grade, target pistols were produced in total. The right side of the slide is marked "SUPER MATCH/COLT SUPER 38/AUTOMATIC" followed by the Rampant Colt motif. The opposite side of the slide has two line Colt's address markings above their 1897-1913 patent dates. The upper left front of the trigger guard is marked with a small letter "P" over the Colt "VP" (verified proof) inside a small triangle. The right side is marked "77". It has the high target type factory front sight with the Colt/Stevens adjustable target rear sight. It is fitted with the original Colt blued Super 38 barrel that is marked on the left side: "COLT SUPER 38 AUTO MATCH" with the circled "MB" match barrel markings on the side of the barrel lug. It has the polished chamber, checkered slide lock, thumb safety, and arched main spring housing, along with the standard Colt wide spur, checkered hammer. As noted this rare pistol is equipped with the Swartz Safety which was only used from about 1937-1941 that was dropped from production during WWII that was reimplemented in the early 1980s as the firing pin safety. It is complete with one all blued magazine marked "COLT SUPER/38 AUTO" on the base plate with a patch of pitting on lower right side. The slide is correctly numbered (matching) to the frame.

Excellent with 98% plus of the original finish with only a hint of minor edge wear in a couple places. The grips are in excellent condition with nice distinct and sharp checkering on both sides with the left side showing some minor pressure dents. Mechanically excellent. This is a really super nice, top condition Colt Super Match 38 Super pistol.
