Description:

The 1893 Gas Trap Revolver was developed for possible sale to the Austrian Army but never left the prototype stages. Less than 100 are believed manufactured in total. The 1893 uses a spring-loaded movable cylinder that is automatically pressed forward by the falling hammer to engage the breech of the barrel and seal the cylinder to the breech. By eliminating the gas gap, no pressure is wasted to gas escaping through the gap. A similar system was later used on the Nagant Model 1895 revolvers. It is marked "WAFFENFABRIK/STEYR" on the left side plate and the matching serial number on the left side of the frame and barrel. The barrel and frame are blued, and most of the other components are finished in a fine golden straw color. It has a pinned round blade front sight, notch rear sight, checkered grip, and lanyard ring.

Rating Definition:

Excellent overall with 97% original blue, 80% plus original straw color, some slight spotting, crisp markings and checkering, and minor marks and scratches. Mechanically excellent. This is an exceptionally rare handgun in excellent, totally original condition. This is only the second example we have had the pleasure of bringing to market.
