Description:

This is a very nice example of an early Lee-Medford or Lee-Enfield Mark I full size bolt action rifle that was converted to a 22 caliber Model 1912 Mk II target/training rifle by the Birmingham Small Arms Company (BSA). These conversions was a very common practice prior to WWI and then again in the late 1920s and early 1930s as it provided a cheap and easy way for the British Government to dispose of aging/outdated old model Lee-Enfield 303 rifles to various companies for use as the basis to produced a high quality target rifle at a very reasonable price. These converted target/club rifles were sold numerous shooting clubs throughout Great Britain. As part of this conversion the BSA Company almost always used the excellent and high quality 22 LR barrel liners manufactured by the world famous A. J. Parker Hale company. These liners were all cut rifle, and after properly installed provided a super accurate match/target rifle. In addition to this conversion this rifle includes one of the very desirable Parker-Hiscock 22LR magazines. By using this type of box magazine it allowed the rifle to be fired like a military rifle in lieu of having to reload each shot. This rifle retains its correct MK II configuration it has an adjustable foresight and the elevation and windage adjustable tangent rear sight, It has the full length 25 inch barrel and the face of the muzzle is correctly marked "RIFLED BY A. J. PARKER". It also still retains the volley sight on the left side of the forearm but not on the rear of the receiver. All the original manufacturing markings and dates were removed during the conversion and the right side of the buttsocket is now only stamped with "B.S.A. Co.". The right side of the receiver ring is stamped with a small British Crown firing proof over serial number "1573" which is also found on the rear of the bolt handle. It is fitted the standard full length forestock with a short handguard behind the rear sight and the standard Enfield buttstock with a brass buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 60% of the BSA Co., refurbished blue finish overall with minor edge and high spot wear with the blue browning out on top of the receiver. The wood components are all in very good condition with a nice matching color and oil finish showing numerous handling marks and light pressure dents on the sides overall from actual club shooting use. It has a matching numbered on the rear of the bolt handle.
