Description:

This is a unique example of a very rare early experimental/prototype J. P. Sauer and Sohns Model 38H in the unique "9 m/m Kurz (380 auto) caliber. Although virtually unknown, this example falls right in the serial number range of other prototype pistols as shown and discussed on page 258 of the book "J.P. Sauer & Sohn" by Cate & Gijn. These 9 m/m Kurz pistols were produced on a very limited/experimental basis with a few examples (including this one) known today. It has the polished blue finish on the frame and slide. The left side of slide is marked with the short factory markings: "J.P. SAUER & SOHN SUHL/CAL. 9 K.", and right side of the slide is marked "PATENT". The slide is fitted with a standard blued fixed rear sight. The right rear side of the frame, slide and front edge of the barrel are all stamped with a single "Crown/N" commercial proof. The serial number (210033) is stamped on the right rear side of the frame above the grip. It is fitted with a set of checkered black plastic grips with the Sauer monogram on the lower left side. It comes with one original magazine that has the original/correct polished blue finish. The base plate is marked with the intertwined "SS" factory logo with no caliber markings, however, a standard 9 mm Kurz (380 auto) fits in the magazine. It comes with a non-factory, unmarked brown commercial leather holster.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 97% plus of the original blue finish overall with only minor edge and high spot wear with actual blue loss on the very front edges of the slides and the lower rear area of the back strap. The grips are also in excellent condition with nice distinct markings and checkering on both sides. The holster is in fair condition. A super example of a very rare J.P. Sauer & Sons experimental/prototype pistol.
