Description:

This rifle-musket would have been manufactured by Remington under their 40,000 gun contracts with the U.S. Ordnance Department for Model 1861 rifle-muskets, but Remington produced theirs based on the newer Model 1863 pattern. It has the distinctive 1863 Type I screw-fastened split bands without band springs, the integral bolster with the eagle motif, and the short profile hammer without the distinct hump of the Model 1855s and 1861s. It has standard markings and features, "1864" on the lock and barrel, and a socket bayonet.

Rating Definition:

Fine as period retailer refinished overall with 85% of the blue finish, dark brownish case colors on the lock, and some minor oxidation. The stock is excellent and has distinct cartouches, mostly crisp edges, some minor handling and storage marks, and an even oiled finish. The bayonet has mottled gray and brown patina and light oxidation. Mechanically excellent.
