Description:

These long range adapted Model 1841 rifles were manufactured by Whitney in 1855 and thus most are dated "1855" on the locks and barrel tangs. They are designed for use with .58 caliber Minie bullets and saber bayonets. This one has standard markings and features other than that it is dated "1863" dated barrel tang but "1855" on the lock and has "F. 78" on the heel of the buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Fine as arsenal refurbished/modified with 30% arsenal brown finish on the barrel, subtle case colors on the lock, gray patina on the faded areas, minor pitting, aged patina on the brass, and moderate overall wear. The otherwise fine stock has a tension crack at the rear lock screw, numerous mild dings and scrapes, some surface chipping, and strong oiled finish. Mechanically excellent.
