Description:

This is an example of a very rare and seldom encountered WWII Russian mortar. The 50 mm Model 1940 (50Krh/40) was produced in large numbers and it was a popular and effective weapon that could be easily and inexpensively manufactured, as its base plate and bipod were simple steel stamping. The barrel reverted to the two-fixed elevation angles as on the Model 1938 and gas venting made range variation possible. The lower part of the tube has a range ring, making range adjustment very easy. The bipod was further simplified by incorporating a novel and simple method of cross leveling for laying which was so successful it was used on later and heavier mortars. It weighted in at approximately 20 lbs making it easily a man portable weapon that had an effective range of approximately 800 meters. This model was equivalent to the U.S. M2 60mm mortar. It is complete with the original bipod and base plate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine condition overall with the tube, base plate and bipod having 70% blue finish overall with the balance a mixed brown/silver patina finish. NOTE: This Destructive Device is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
