Description:

This artillery or naval officer's saber from c. 1800-1810 possibly originating from England has no maker's marks but is etched with floral scroll and martial themes with gold fill and niter blue backgrounds along with "Warranted" in a banner. The blade is 28 1/2 inches along the spine and 1 1/4 inch wide. The silver plated brass hilt has a vertically grooved grip, bead designs on the guard, plain finial, and a eagle pommel. There is a small ring at the base of the knuckle guard below the eagle head. The furniture of the leather scabbard is also silver plated brass.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with 70% original silver, gilt, and niter blue finish; aged patinas on the silver and exposed brass, mottled gray patina on the blade, generally light pitting aside from the tip which has heavier pitting, some cracks and crumpling of the leather, and mild aging of the grip.
