Description:

Approximately 10,000 Model 1842 Muskets were altered between 1856 and 1859 by rifling the bores and equipping them with long range rifle sights. Model 1842s both in original smoothbore configuration and rifled were widely used during the Civil War. This one is dated "1854" on the lock and tang and has the standard markings and features. A socket bayonet is included.

Rating Definition:

Good with mottled brown patina, mild pitting, matching condition on the bayonet, moderate chips at the upper tang, material absent and a repaired crack by the tail of the lock, vice marks on the butt, and moderate marks and dings throughout. Mechanically fine.
