Description:

The Model 1842 was the last pattern for U.S. martial smoothbore muskets. It was also the first regulation percussion arm manufactured at both Harpers Ferrry and Springfield and the first model manufactured with completely interchangeable parts. Many were rifled later by the armories. Though the range was considerably shorter unless they were rifled, the smoothbore Model 1842 was well-suited to the relatively short ranges of many mid-19th century engagements and was certainly deadly with ball or buck and ball loads. This one has standard markings and features and was manufactured early enough to have been used in both the Mexican-American War and the Civil War.

Rating Definition:

Fine with mostly bright iron surfaces, buff marks, and some light pitting. The otherwise very good stock has a refreshed oil finish and some light dings and scuffs. The bayonet matches the musket's condition. Mechanically excellent.
