This variation is also known as the Third Model Winchester-Hotchkiss musket. This example was manufactured around 1895 and features a blade front sight dovetailed onto the original bayonet stud base, notch and "ski jump" rear sight, two-line Winchester address ahead of the rear sight, "45-70" on top at the breech, "45" over-stamped over another marking followed by the London definitive proof on the left side of the barrel at the breech, the proof repeated on the left side of the action and the bolt, "{MODEL OF 1883}" on the upper tang, the patent markings on the lower tang, the serial number on the bottom of the action, and oil finished stock and forearm.

Very fine overall with 70% plus original blue and casehardened finish, mostly brown patina on the balance, some light oxidation, and general minor marks and scratches. The stock and forearm have some minor chips, numerous light scratches, and even oiled finish. Mechanically excellent.
