Replica Colt Single Action Army Revolver with carbine length barrel and detachable skeleton stock manufactured in the 20th Century to replicate c. 1876-1877 manufacture. This revolver features a 16-inch barrel with dovetailed "Rocky Mountain" style front sight with brass blade, special frame with folding leaf rear sight and gas port and elongated hammer screws to engage notches in the stock. The ejector rod has the early bullseye head. The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line Hartford address. The left side of the frame has the Colt 1871 and 1872 two-line patent marking. "44 CAL." is on the left shoulder of the trigger guard. "44" is stamped on the underside of the barrel in front of the frame. An "O" sub-inspection mark is stamped in the hammer slot above the firing pin hole. The assembly number "1245" is stamped on the inside of the loading gate. The full serial number is stamped the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The partial serial number "8817" is stamped on the barrel beneath the ejector housing. The cylinder is stamped with the partial serial number "8811." The detachable skeleton stock is nickel plated. The only marking on the stock is a large "R" stamped on the inside of the butt hook (indicates replica/reproduction).

Very good as professionally made to replicate an original Buntline. This revolver has all of the Buntline Special features and the serial number falls between two revolvers listed as having "carbine length barrels" (serial numbers "28816" and "28818") in Colt factory records. In addition, the partial serial number on the cylinder of this revolver "8811" is apparently the partial serial number of Buntline Special serial no. "28811" listed in Colt factory records. The barrel, ejector housing, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap have been custom high polish blued, and the frame, hammer and loading gate have been re-casehardened. The Colt legend on the barrel appears to be hand-engraved. The highly figured walnut grip is probably not original to the revolver. The scarce detachable skeleton stock is a replica (so marked with "R") and retains at least 85% of the nickel-plated finish. This is a great looking representative example of one of the best known but nearly un-obtainable variations of the Colt Single Action Army Revolver.
