Manufactured between 1865 and 1871. This unusual breechloading shotgun is marked on the hinged double breechblock "ETHAN ALLEN & CO. WORCESTER.MASS./ALLEN'S PATs NOV. 9. 1858 - SEPT. 18, 1860 - AUG. 22. 1865" and in Old English "Fine Laminated Steel" on the barrel rib. The receiver tangs, and trigger guard feature near full coverage fine floral and scroll engraving. The breechblock features a double locking mechanism with a lever on the right side (also used to raise the block), and the noses of the hammers on the rear of the block, meaning the hammers must be at half cock for the breech to be opened. Checkered forearm with single attaching wedge, and straight grip stock with a smooth steel buttplate. Stock measurements are: drop at comb 2 inches; drop at heel 2 1/2 inches; length of pull 14 1/4 inches.

Very good. The barrels have and overall dark brown patina with spotting, some pitting, and scattered nicks and a noticeable dent visible in right center barrel. The receiver has a mottled gray/brown patina with crisp engraving, and areas of some darker spotting. The revarnished wood is also fine with numerous dings, worn though well defined checkering, and some surface cracks and filled areas on the buttstock sides. Mechanically very good.
