Description:

The Perry Patent Arms Co. produced a small number of military carbines along with single shot pistols and custom ordered sporting rifles in varying calibers and configurations. It features a tubular magazine fed through the butt that held 50 percussion caps. When the breechblock is lowered a new cap was placed on the nipple. This Perry rifle has full octagon barrel equipped with a German silver blade front sight and an interesting "flip over" grooved drum rear sight (known on a few other Perry rifles). "HITCHCOCK & MUZZY/CAST-STEEL" is marked on the upper left barrel flat indicating it was manufactured by that barrel maker from Worcester, Mass. The top of the breechblock is marked "A.D. PERRY/PATENTED/1855" and "PERRY PATENT ARM Co/NEWARK N.J.". It is fitted with a smooth forearm and buttstock with German silver forend cap and escutcheons along with a slightly curved buttplate. The wedge, forearm, top of the barrel and action at the breech, trigger, lever, stock, and buttplate all have matching serial numbers.

Rating Definition:

Fair with mostly brown patina, some signs of touched up finish, filing on the bottom of the breechblock and frame, light pitting, and minor marks and scratches. The reoiled wood is also fine and has some small hairline cracks and numerous small dings and scratches. Mechanically fine.
