Description:

The accompanying factory letter states that this rifle originally was fitted with a No. 3, 30 inch octagon barrel in 32-40 (currently fitted with a No. 3, 30 inch octagon barrel in .38-55), single set trigger, checkered pistol grip stock, sporting leaf and mid-range sights (currently fitted with globe front, folding ladder rear and tang peep sights) and hard rubber shotgun buttplate when it was received in the warehouse on October 4, 1904. It was shipped on October 6, 1904, and the letter lists a repaired and returned dated of October 17, 1908. The barrel has the two-line address and "38-55" markings on the top flat, and the lower tang has the patent date and serial number. Mounted on highly figured and checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with ebony forend insert and hard rubber factory grip cap.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as rebarreled. The rifle retains 85% original blue finish thinning to a brown. The refinished wood is also very fine with a few minor handling marks and crisp checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.
