Manufactured in 1886, the second year of production. Receiver is of the desirable flatside variant with the rounded chamber internally marked with two "X's" on face under forend. The number 3 marked barrel is also marked with the two-line address ahead of the rear sight and ".30" at the breech. Note that .30 WCF was not introduced until 1895, a good 10 years after this rifle was manufactured. The rifle lacks Winchester factory proofs (which denotes pre-1905). At the time of this writing, the writer did not have a factory letter. Lyman 77 globe front sight, filler block in the rear sight dovetail slot, Lyman tang peep sight, lower tang marked with the patent date and serial number and smooth straight grip stock with ebony forend insert.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as later factory barreled and or shipped. The barrel retains 95% of the factory blue finish showing some loss at the muzzle, a small patch of minor pitting and some light spotting. The remaining surfaces retain 95% plus of the factory case colors. The wood is fine showing some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
