Description:

The barrel top is marked "NEW HAVEN CONN./PATENT FEB 14, 1854", indicating that the pistol was manufactured after Volcanic's reorganization in April of 1857 and the formation of the New Haven Arms Company. The company was formed to continue production of the former Volcanic Repeating Arms Company. These pistols were produced in 30 caliber and used the same basic frame as the original Volcanic. The frame is decorated with floral scroll patterns and scallop bordering. The serial number is marked on the left side of the frame under the grip panel and the matching number is stamped on the inside of each panel. The pistol has a blue barrel, casehardened lever and trigger with a brass frame, pinched blade front sight and dovetailed fixed iron rear sight. Fitted with smooth varnished walnut grips. Production of these scarce pistols ran from 1857 to 1860.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled gray patina with traces of original blue finish in protected areas. The brass has been cleaned at some time and remains relatively bright. The slightly undersized grips have been refinished and remain good with a small chip on each heel and toe, some wear on the lower edges and a few minor handling marks. The markings and engraving are clear. The lever is a bit loose, otherwise the action is fine.
