Only 64,855 were manufactured before production switched to the Model 1901. Manufactured in 1889, this example is marked with "10" and an oval "WP" stamp at the breech, the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. monogram on the left side of the action, the serial number ahead of the lever, and the four line address and patent marking on the lower tang. The smooth pistol grip stock is fitted with a vented Pachmayr recoil pad (about 3/4 inches thick). It has a 2 3/4 inch chamber for black powder shot shells and 12 1/2 inch length of pull.

Rating Definition:

Fine. The barrel and magazine retain 60% original blue finish with the balance a smooth brown patina. The remaining surfaces retain 50% plus original case colors. The shortened wood is very good with some minor-moderate dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
