These rifles were designed to compete with Remingtons prolific No. 1 rolling block rifles but were never as popular and are thus fairly rare. Manufactured in 1871-1881. Standard markings, blade front sight, notch and folding ladder rear sight, "45-" on top at the breech, "70" ahead of the forearm, and matching serial numbers on the barrel, forearm, and lower tang.

Rating Definition:

Fine overall with 30% original blue and casehardened finish, particularly vibrant case colors on the hammer, smooth brown and gray patina on most of the balance, some slight pitting and oxidation, mild edge wear, and general minor marks. The wood is has some minor dings and scratches, smooth oiled finish, and some cracking in the butt. Mechanically excellent. This is a solid example of a scarce late 19th century American sporting rifle.
