Description:

This model was designed by Samuel Colt and referred to in factory advertisements and labels as "New Model Pistols." Only 14,000 were manufactured in .31 caliber compared to 26,000 in .28 caliber. It is believed that this model was specifically designed to compete with Colt's rivals in European markets, but this model was never as popular as the traditional open top Colt percussion revolvers despite its excellent design. This revolver was manufactured in 1869 and falls within the Model 7 range and has that model's standard markings and features with the addition of London proofmarks on the left side of the barrel and between each cylinder chamber. Comes in a hardwood case with partitioned interior, Colt Pall Mall, London directions sheet on the interior of the lid, green baize lining, pick, bore rod, "L" shaped tool, "COLTS/PATENT" and "31PKT" marked bullet mold, James Dixon & Sons powder flask, oiler, case key, Eley Brothers Colt cap tin and a few lead rounds.

Rating Definition:

Very fine. The revolver retains 60% plus bright original high polished blue finish with the balance between smooth brown and gray patinas. Nearly all of the cylinder scene remains. The grip is very good with a some moderate dings (mostly on the bottom), some high edge wear and some minor scratches with most of the varnish remaining. The cylinder does not lock tightly but the action does cycle. The case is fine with some replacement wood, some minor handling/storage marks and some high spot wear on the lining. Nearly all of the original interior label remains.
