Description:

Manufactured 1864 and was among the approximately 6,500 revolvers converted from 1862 Police/Pocket Navy revolver parts to 38 rimfire and centerfire cartridge. This example has the 3 inch octagon barrel without an ejector. The top of the barrel is marked with the one-line New York address, and the left side of the frame is marked with the two-line 1871 and 1872 patent dates. "36 CAL." is on the left trigger guard shoulder. The cylinder is roll engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene and marked "COLTS PATENT/No 417" The complete matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the barrel lug, frame, trigger guard and butt. The wedge is numbered "7900"and we were unable to remove the barrel to check the cylinder pin number. Fitted with a one-piece smooth varnished walnut grip.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 90% of the factory nickel remaining, showing some scattered minor flaking and high point wear. The hammer retains 95% bright case colors. The grip is also very fine with 95% varnish remaining, and showing some minor wear on the lower edges and some scattered minor dents and dings. The markings and cylinder scene are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
