Description:

Manufactured in 1887 and subsequently embellished by Western engraver Ernie A. Lytle. The revolver features early American West inspired rope and floral scroll engraving covering the barrel, cylinder flats, frame, top of the ejector rod housing and on the top and bottom of the back strap. The frame toe is signed "E/L". Mr. Lytle studied the techniques and designs of Gustave Young and Louis D. Nimschke. He was named Engraver of the Year in 2006 by the Academy of Western Art. The top of the barrel is marked with the two line address, the left side of the frame is marked with the three line, three patent dates and the upper left front of the trigger guard bow is marked "45 CAL.". The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, trigger guard and back strap. The loading gate is marked with the assembly number "490". Black powder frame, later oval shaped ejector rod head, blade front and frame notch rear sights, all silver finish and fitted with a two piece grip, smooth on the left panel and relief carved Mexican Eagle on the right panel.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as professionally embellished and refinished with 99% silver finish remaining. There are areas of the finish that are beginning to darken with age. The grips are very fine. The left panel is slightly darker than the right and has an attractive grain. There are a few hairline age and stress lines visible on the bottoms. The engraving and markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
