Description:

This is an excellent example of a scarce late pre-war manufactured Colt Single Action Army revolver that was later assembled and sold after the end of WWII in the late 1940s. These pre-war/post-war revolvers have been thoroughly discussed in several of the Colt Single Action books. The most noteworthy is by John Kopec and the other by Don Wilkerson. This post-war revolver was numbered in the pre-war serial range. This serial number is only 249 away from the last First Generation serial number. The selling of these pre-war revolvers during this time directly coincided with the restarting of the production line for the Second Generation Colt Single Action Army revolvers in the early 1950s. The revolver has the Colt high quality pre-war blue finish with the casehardened frame and loading gate. The top of the barrel has the one-line address "COLTS PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.", and the left side of the barrel is marked "COLT SINGLE ACTION ARMY .38 SPECIAL". The left side of the frame has the two-line, three-patent dates followed by the Rampant Colt. The Colt triangle "VP" proof on the upper left front side of the trigger guard with a single "F" proof on the rear. The matching serial number is marked on the bottom of the frame, on the right side of the grip straps under the grip and on the inside of each grip panel. The matching assembly number "367" is marked on the right rear of the frame and on the loading gate. Fitted with the black hard rubber checkered grips with the Rampant Colt in an oval at the top. A "3" is visible on the inside of each grip panel and the remainder of the number has been ground down. There is a red label maker sticker on the butt number "31". Comes with an original black hinged lid box with correct end label, test target, "Shooting Suggestions" pamphlet and bore brush. The same label maker number is on one end lid flap and an added collectors label on the other.

Rating Definition:

Near new in box. The revolver retains 99% plus original blue and vivid casehardened finish with some mild muzzle and high point wear, some minor cylinder rotation marks and light handling marks. The grips are also excellent with only light handling marks and very crisp checkering. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The box is good with two separated corners on the lid, some edge wear and a hole worn through the box from the hammer. There is also a tear on the front lid flap.
