Description:

The barrel comprising a short swelled cup of approx. 2 1/2 inch diam. signed "VON BRECHT" with turned muzzle ring and narrow slightly tapering round breech section. A slightly down curved brass tang extends from the top of the breech section which is slotted for a centrally mounted cocking piece for the internal percussion hammer. Iron trigger plate mechanism. Blackened wood iron mounted full stock with sprung recoil absorbing leather covered butt plate. The iron stock mounts including forward half band with pivoting ring mounted beneath, and with remains of a carved wood trigger guard. The right side of the stock has an iron aperture indicating that the percussion ignition system was fed via magazine. The stock is painted with museum inventory number "L.1669-4".

Rating Definition:

Fair. Brass parts discolored with surface verdigris, engraved signature clear. Iron parts heavily corroded. The stock missing a large section of wood from the left side, is cracked on the left side of the butt, and is missing a further smaller section of wood from the right side. Leather covering to butt plate dried with some flaking.
