This gun is struck with the crowned "V" Vorratszeichen mark denoting pre-1891 manufacture and probably dates circa 1880. The browned damascus barrels have a doll's head extension and slightly raised matte flat rib bearing a bead front sight and signed "MILLER & VAL. GREISS IN MÜNCHEN". Rounded action with carved percussion fences, permanently attached forearm and Lefaucheux type rotary underlever with dark horn grip. Back-action side locks each signed "MILLER & VAL. GREISS MÜNCHEN" and with blued safety bolt. Blued trigger guard with pierced scrolled dark horn finger rest and blued butt plate engraved with a pattern of diamond checkering with a central dot to each diamond. Figured 13 7/8 inch stock with raised cheekpiece, checkered grip and forearm. Two small iron sling mounts and fine border and scroll engraving throughout. Weight 6 lbs. 12 oz. Provenance: Property of a German Prince, the great, great grandchild of Emperor Franz Josef I, Emperor of Austria and King of Hungary.

Very fine. No definitive proofmarks, minimum wall thickness: right 28, left 33. The barrels retaining 70% original browned finish with some fading and scattered minor surface marking. Action, locks and mounts each retaining 40% original casehardened finish, engraving crisp and clear throughout with the exception of the butt plate that has some surface wear to the heel and toe. Stock is also very fine with minor age related storage and handling marks and bruising. Mechanically excellent.
