Manufactured circa 1885-1889. The blued octagonal to round barrel with full length matted sighting rib and signed "J.F. TIMPE HOFBÜCHSENM. BERLIN". The rib fitted with a white metal bead front sight, blued rear sight of one fixed and folding leaf and engraved quick release bases for a detachable telescopic sight. Casehardened rounded box lock action with scrolled push-forward underlever and gold capped cocking indicators on each side behind the action. Casehardened trigger plate with double set trigger mechanism and sprung grip safety with scrolled green horn finger rest with checkered manual release catch engraved "D.R. PATENT". Figured 14 1/4 inch semi-pistol grip half stock with raised cheekpiece and checkered grip and forearm. The forearm fitted on each side with a sprung so-called Kaiser hook during its working life to stabilize aiming when resting the rifle against a tree or post. Steel butt plate with hinged trap cover. Steel pistol grip cap with two gold inlaid border lines and traces of a gold inlaid coat of arms. Two iron sling mounts and border and scroll engraving throughout. It is believed that the coat of arms that has mostly been removed from the pistol grip cap was that of Kaiser Wilhelm II (1859-1941), son of Kaiser Frederick III and Princess Victoria. Wilhelm was crowned Emperor of Germany and King of Prussia in June 1888 and abdicated in November 1918 when imminent defeat in what became known as the First World War sparked revolution in Germany. The sprung hooks fitted to the forearm gained the name "Kaiser hook" due to Wilhelm having a withered left arm and his need for a stability device when hunting.

Fine. Barrel reblued, a dove tailed insert visible blanking off a slot for a redundant earlier rear sight. No telescopic sight is present. The right side of the barrel at the breech end marked with later registration number "360825-1213". Engraving crisp and clear throughout. Some discoloration to iron parts, casehardened finish faded. Minor age related handling and storage marks and blemishes to the stock. Mechanically excellent.
