This is an outstanding example of a very desirable pre-war Colt Model 1911A1 Super 38 Automatic pistol that was manufactured in early 1933. This wonderful pistol is complete with an original and correctly numbered maroon shipping box that is correctly marked on the label, "COLT AUTOMATIC PISTOL SUPER 38", includes the instruction manual and Colt Super 38 advertisement sheet that is stamped "The Sutcliffe Company 225 S. Fourth St. Louisville, Kentucky" on back. The left side of the slide is marked with the standard two line address/patent dates, and the right side is marked "COLT SUPER.38/AUTOMATIC" followed by the Rampant Colt. The upper left side of the trigger guard bow is stamped with a "W" over the Colt "VP" proof, and the number "60" is on the opposite side. It is fitted with an unmarked blued barrel with polished chamber area, chambered in the 38 Super caliber. It has the early high polish blue finish with a excellent super smooth action. The slide has the standard pre-war fixed sight with the thick, half-moon style front sight and the square notch rear sight. It has the short trigger with checkered face, checkered slide lock lever, thumb safety and the wide spur hammer with full checkering. It is complete with one half-tone Colt magazine that is marked "COLT/SUPER .38 AUTO" on the bottom. The maroon box as noted has a blue/white Colt label on the end with the serial number "14149" marked in pencil on the underside. The included factory letter lists the pistol with a 5 inch barrel in .38 Super, blue finish and type of stocks not listed when shipped to Union Hardware & Metal Co., Los Angeles on October 12, 1933.

Near new in box with 98% plus of the original Colt blue finish overall with some surface scratches visible around slide stop and on right side of slide. Some very minor blue loss is visible on the very front left edge of the slide possibly from being in the box. The grips are in like new condition with nice sharp distinct checkering on both sides with no visible handling marks. The box is in very fine condition with only wear and color loss on the some of he edges and corners of the lid, with the two front corners showing a slight tear/gap at the corner. This is a really nice, very high condition early Colt Super 38 Semi-Automatic pistol.
