Description:

This is a very fine example of a late production 1902 Military Model semi-automatic pistol that was shipped to Iver Johnson on August 22, 1908 (reference page 105 of "The Government Models" by William H. S. Goddard). The pistol features the high polish Colt commercial blue finish, with nitre blued trigger, casehardened hammer, and blue barrel. It is fitted with later production factory smooth white grips with extruded Colt silver medallions at the top of each grip. The left side of the slide is marked with Colt's, two-block, two-line address and patent markings that read: "PATENTED/APR. 20, 1897. SEPT. 9, 1902" followed by "COLT'S PT.F.A.MFG.CO./ HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.". The rear of the slide has the Rampant Colt logo behind the serrations. The right side of the slide is marked "AUTOMATIC COLT/CALIBRE .38 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in two lines and the serial number "31639" marked on the lower left side of the frame. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped the Colt "VP/Triangle" proof with a capital "G" at the lower rear area of the trigger guard bow. It still retains its original military style lanyard loop on the lower left side of the frame and the original brass firing pin. The magazine is blued and stamped "CAL .38/ COLT" on the floor plate.

Rating Definition:

Very fine with 85% plus of the bright, original, high polished blue finish overall with high spot wear, with the front and rear grip straps showing light blue loss. The hammer retains 90% of its original case colors. The grips show a very nice aged yellow look, with some light age cracks at the top edge on the left side and a slightly larger age crack on the lower right side. A very attractive Colt Military Model 1902 Semi-Automatic pistol.
