Description:

Originally produced in a dark blue/gray paint finish typical of Luftwaffe helmets, this 1940 stahlhelm has been hand painted in a mixture of tan, reddish-brown, and deep green, which was applied carefully around the left side to preserve the Luftwaffe eagle. Over top of the paint, a cover of tight camo netting has been applied, secured via cords to the webbing and arranged/reinforced with a series of interlinked wires. The netting appears to be of British make, particularly the style often seen as a concealment upgrade on the Allied-issue 1917/"Brodie" helmet, and may have been a field-captured item put back into use by the Germans. The interior shows a few daubs of tan paint along with the original blue/gray, stamped "300" in the rear, "ET64" on the left, and "Gef.Leb(?)" hand-signed on the webbing. The gefreiter has not been identified. This helmet can be seen on page 116 of "German Helmets 1933-1945 Volume II" by Goodapple and Maertz.

Rating Definition:

Very good, showing mild wear and handling marks overall. The net is very good, with a small amount of breakage on the lower edge, wear and staining, and the webbing shows mild wear, stains and cracking.
