Description:

An evolution of the World War I stahlhelm, the World War II-era stahlhelm is one of the most distinctive combat helmet designs of the 20th century, and the overall profile influenced many later designs. This particular helmet is finished in gray, with the Luftwaffe "eagle" decal on the left side and the national tricolor shield on the right. Originally the standard for the German Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS, the decals were eliminated as the war went on, first the tricolor then the branch-specific symbol. Soldiers were ordered to repaint their helmets to eliminate the decals, but many are known to have kept theirs as an indicator of their "old fighter" status. A sections of cord netting has been applied over top, secured by a combination of metal staples and being tucked between the helmet shell and the webbing, which was a popular in-field modification. The netting was used to break up the overall profile of the helmet, served as an attachment point for local foliage, and could be dampened to reduce the overall glare produced by the finish. The interior is stamped "D133" in the back and "NS66" on the left, with a brown leather chinstrap and webbing.

Rating Definition:

Good. The exterior shows bright wear along the edge and in a few patches on the crown, along with some mild spotting and scuffing. The webbing is good, with a few broken sections, some of which correspond to areas of heavy scuffs. The interior is good, with some stains and cracks on the leather.
