This is a very rare and seldom encountered, original Colt manufactured and assembled AR-15A2 Carbine/M203 40mm Grenade Launcher rig. The Colt M203 GL was designed in the late 1960s/early 19070s and intended to replace the standard M79 single barrel GL. It was used throughout Vietnam and was intended to provide a single weapon system, capable of fully automatic fire along with a grenade launching capability. It proved to be a very effective weapon that has been in use by the US Military (Army, Navy USMC, and AF) for the last 45 plus years. It was attached in two places on the carbine; 1) directly under the barrel of the weapon ( in this case the AR15A2 carbine) and 2) the front support is fitted to a notch in the barrel directly in front of the front sight. The carbine is fitted with two types of sights, a large folding tangent sight mounted on top of the handguard and a special GL sight mounted on the side of the carrying handle. The carrying handle sight could provide aimed, effective fire for up to 400 meters. The left side of the receiver is marked: "COLTS MFG./HARTFORD/CONN U.S.A." and below that: "LAUNCHER, GRENADE/40 MM : M203/ S/N 153484A/USA".

Excellent with 98% of the original factory finish overall showing only minor edge wear with signs of limited test firing. Consignor states it is fully operational. NOTE: This Destructive Device is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) under the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.

This is an excellent example of a current/recent production Colt AR15A2 Gov't carbine with the desirable earlier "Military/law Enforcement" restrictive markings on the right side of the mag well. The left side is marked: "Colt/AR-15A2/GOVT CARBINE/CAL .223/SER. LGC043560". It has the standard features such as the detachable carrying handle, case deflector, forward assist, standard post front and adjustable 600 meter type rear sight, four position telescoping plastic stock and a M16A2 style flash hider. It has the short carbine length top handguard with the checkered grip. This carbine does not comes with any magazine.
