Description:

This is an example of a very early production, Reising Model 50 submachine gun as manufactured by the Harrington & Richardson Company. This model was first produced in 1941 and continued through the end of 1945. It was initially used for a short time by the USMC in WWII and was considered as a substitute standard for the Thompson submachine gun. The big advantage over the Thompson SMG is that they were shorter and considerably lighter, easier and cheaper to produce but still fired the same 45 ACP cartridge. Over 100,000 of this model were produced in total and used throughout WWII, Korea and even by many of the irregular Special Forces and early helicopter units in the early months of Vietnam because of their compact size and light weight. The top of the receiver is marked " MODEL 50- H.&R. REISING CAL. 45" /HARRINGTON AND RICHARDSON ARMS CO./ WORCHESTER, MASS. U.S.A. PAT. PENDING", with serial number "145" towards the rear of the receiver. The right side of the receiver has the three position (SAFE/SA/FA) selector switch and it is fitted with a stamped sheet metal adjustable rear sight with blade front sight. The barrel has the cooling fins in the middle like the early and the muzzle is fitted with a unique compensator/muzzle break. It is fitted with a one-piece walnut stock. The cocking lever is found on the underside of the forend. This lot comes with one original Reising Model 50 20 round magazine.

Rating Definition:

Very fine as refurbished with 98% of a dark gray parkerized finish overall, with clear sharp markings on the sides. The stock is in near mint condition with a light brown oil finish showing no handling marks. NOTE: This item is restricted as a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a "Curios or Relic" as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478.
