Description:

Manufactured in 1942. Included with this pistol is an information sheet attributed by the consignor to this pistol. The information (which does not include names of people or a serial number) states that the pistol was issued in 1942 in West Palm Beach, Florida, to an Air Corps flight crew that was to shuttle a Lockheed Ventura B-34 bomber from W.P.B. to the Gold Coast of Africa for delivery to the South African Air Force. Afterwards, the pistol was retained by the pilot, who spent much of the war performing transport flights in Africa and also out to China and India. At war's end, they were assigned as the Flight Operations Officer at Stockton AFB in California, before leaving the service in September 1945 and taking the pistol with them. Blade front and flat top rear sights, with the two-line, two-block markings divided by the Rampant Colt on the left side of the slide and a "W.B." inspected frame with "R/VP" and "36" on the trigger guard. Fitted with a milled short checkered trigger, wide checkered hammer, long grip safety, arched checkered mainspring housing, unribbed Colt grips, full blue "R" magazine, and a "COLT 45 AUTO" barrel. With a brown leather 1942 Boyt holster and a vintage photograph of an American serviceman with a pistol in each hand, possibly the unnamed pilot from the information sheet.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus, as issued, with 99% plus original parkerized finish, showing holster marks and handling, scuff marks only. The grips are excellent, with a few light dings, and the holster is very good, with some scuffs and verdigris. Mechanically excellent.
