Description:

This is a late WWII Inland Division/General Motors M1 carbine that has been fitted with an original M3 Infrared scope rig. These scopes were originally manufactured in mid to late 1944, and employed in very limited numbers during WWII with much greater use in Korea. This M1 Carbine has the standard receiver markings with the barrel marked "INLAND MFG. DIV/GENERAL MOTORS/9-44". The carbine has a mix of early and late, parts to include a late round M1 style bolt, a late SA marked type III barrel band with bayonet lug, a flip safety, low wood, oval cut stock and late four rivet hand guard modified for the mounting bar. The stock has a crossed canon cartouche on the right side of the butt with the correct "IO" Inland stamp in the sling slot. It has the mounting bar already installed on top of the carbine and it is fitted with a Korean war era M3 scope. The scope nomenclature plate is marked "CORPS OF ENGINEERS U.S. ARMY/TELESCOPE/SNIPERSCOPE INFRARED/20,000 VOLTS/AMERICAN OPTICAL Co./ Buffalo N.Y." It is dated "6-23-51" with serial number "M3. 8617 .51". The sniper scope is complete with the infrared collector on top of the scope, an original power pack and battery, forward mounted pistol grip/trigger assembly, the various cables and one of the original rubberized pack/carrying case. It comes with a spare lens for the scope, a spare rectifier tube, a small light bulb for inside the power pack and a M3 Sniper scope manual, a 30 round magazine and M3 flash hider. This scarce M1 Carbine/M3 Infrared scope rig is complete with its original green M3 storage case/chest with the large "U.S." M3 scope markings stenciled on the lid.

Rating Definition:

Very good condition overall with 60% of their original parkerized finish still remaining overall with a silver gray patina on the exposed metal surfaces with more parkerizing finish in the protected areas. The M3 scope/infrared collector and pistol grip/switch assembly are all in excellent condition with 95% of their black painted finish overall with light wear on the edges and high spots. The lens are all intact and do not appear to be cracked or damaged; however, the scope is untested. The stock and handguard are both in fine condition with a nice original dark brown oil finish overall, showing only minor light scratches on the left side with a small repaired area on the right side above the magazine catch. A really nice honest M1 Carbine with M3 infrared sniper scope.
